"Little Things"
Directed by- Nigel Dick (a British video director
who has also worked with The Damned.)
Guest Appearance- by Mandy Moore who plays the
"Trick."
The 'School Principal' was Don Gilmore who was the producer of their 1st record.
Overall concept- they are those tikes in your class that have a band
who cause trouble. Joel- "It's us in high school, getting kids to leave their class because we rock so hard."
Band Regrets- Billy's red pants..." I thought they were so cool at the
time"
Benji's kiss...."its the lamest one second of the video and it was my idea."
"Motivation Proclimation"
Directed by- Marc Webb. Video shot in producers house, they had to paint the
wall red and blue and the vice president of Sony was there.
Overall concept- Benj-"us waking up and rocking."
Billy-"Song about breaking out of a cycle, or if your depressed about something, just getting
over it and moving on."
Info- The cartoon 'The Undergrads' (which GC did the theme tune for) is on
the tv and characters sing along to the lyrics.
The directer says "there is a great honesty to this song and that always helps when making
a video. I feel lucky to be part of that."
"Festival Song"
Director- Marc Webb - "We wanted a raw unpolished look...lots of camera, lots
of film. Thats the most important thing."
Location- Shot at the HFS festival, RFK stadium, Washington DC (their hometown)
"We've been going to that festival since we were young" -Paul
Guest Appearences- New Found Glory, Linkin Park, Tony from Mest.
Overall concept- It's a mini documentary of the band at the HFS festival.
Benj- "We wanted to make a live video...we got the most enthusiastic fans in the world and
we wanted to show us and our fans."
Info- To show the idea of space they got the crowd to throw hundreds of rolls
of toilet paper ("We got a few good streamers.")
Joel- "I like that, that was fun. I like getting toilet paper thrown at me."
Bands thoughts- Joel- "When i see that video we all look really happy, really
excited. We all love music, that video brings back good memories."
Benji- "This was the beginning of this era for our band."
"Lifestyles"
Directed by- Bill Fishman.
Location-The Courthouse steps of LA City Hall. Performance shot in old Hurst
newspaper building.
Guest Appearances- Kyle
Gas of Tenacious D, Cashdogg, Chris from N*Sync and Myke Wyatt (starred in "Minute Man" and "Fire hose")
Overall Concept- Good Charlotte on trial, getting arrested for breaking into a Beverly
Hills home. Double meaning...Joel- "We feel like we're always on trial for the dumbest reasons like if we're 'punk' or if
we're not." Therefore it's GC up on trial against the law, judged by a jury of their peers; a punk-rock jury. The black suits
idea was thought up by Benji and is meant to represent the film "Resivoir Dogs."
Bands thoughts- Joel- "It's not youre typical pop-punk type song." Benji- "It's probably
the most conceptual video we've made...I like it when Joel raps, he's a good little rapper." Billy- "We were proud of the
song, proud of the video and glad that it was the first song that really did anything."
"The Anthem"
Directors- Smith & Borin.
Guest Apperances- Homegrown, Tony from Mest (what a suprise!), Cashdogg &
his girlfriend Elsie, New Found Glory, Halo Friendlies & Rick Thorne a BMX Rider.
Overall Concept- a fun video with cars, bikes. girls & friends hanging
out. An "ain't nothing but a G thing" type vibe to it. An influence of the early '90's gangsta rap from Snoop Dogg, Dr Dre
and Easy E.
Info- First video with Chris Wilson in it:) They rode Low-rider bikes. There
was no added colour to the video.
Band Thoughts- Benji- "Easiest video shoot ever." The performance in the empty
pool is Joel's favourite performance shot.
" Girls and Boys"
Directors- Smith & Borin.
Location- Filmed in New Zealand.
Guest Apperances- A shitload of old people. No Tony- WOOOAH!!!
Overall Concept- " a goofy good time...to make every person, young or old,
laugh or at least smile."- Joel. It has a more polished, controlled, vibrant feel to it. Also they wanted to capture some
of their personalities; eg Benji the playboy, Billy the videogame freak, the troublesome Chris throwing a milkshake at the
passing car, Paul getting hit on by old women & eating pretzels and Joel's tribute to Missy Eliott's hip-hop dancing.
Bands Thoughts- Benji thinks us "kids got nothing on those 85-yr olds" because
they rocked so hard. Benji wanted to include a clip from the film "Happy Gilmore", which is why he is woken up by the old
woman in his Made shirt.
"Young & Hopeless"
Directed by- Sam Erikson, Joel Madden & Benji Madden.
Overall Concept- The whole world thinks that success is based on trophies/
ribbons/ certificates & awards and being Good Charlotte, they smash up the worlds' superficial ideas of success to show that
its not important to them. They're not in it for recognised acheivement, they're in it for the music & their fans.
Info- The director sapped out alot of colour & added a more green colour
to it, in order to create a meaner, dirtier edge. This video was the Madden Twins' directing debut....awww!
Bands Thoughts- Paul- "this song is the most rocking song on the album."
On the Bridge everything starts to fall down off the walls and they break things up because
on the album the bridge "literally explodes" & they wanted the video to show that too. Chris loves to break things!
